    2006-2007 October Weekends with the Experts -Suzanne Dalton's Power Point detailing the process and procedures involved with the FCAT administration. Ms. Dalton discusses the transcription for student answers from braille to print to be graded; how teachers of the visually impaired should work with thier district testing coordinators to ensure materials and accommodations are in place; and how the braille test is reviesed, produced, and proofread.

This assessment helps the IEP team to decide on the appropriate primary and secondary learning medias that best suit the needs of the child.   • 07-08 WWE - I Want to be Made - Implementing Career Education with the MTV Generation
    The Florida Institute of Rehabilitation Education for People who are Visually Impaired or Blind (FIRE) has a "new twist" on preparing students for post-high school activities. Borrowing from the MTV "Made" concept, students explore possible career choices and receive job coaching to help them "Make" their decisions. PowerPoint includes sample activities, how the concept was developed and who to contact for more information. Presented at the 2007-2008 Weekends with the Experts for Visually Impaired.

  • 07-08 WWE -Braille Reading -Teaching Effective Hand Movements
    Dr. Diane Wormsley from North Carolina Central University presented on the research of the ABC Braille Study as to effective hand movements in braille reading. Workshop was February 22, 2008 at the Hillsborough Community College in Plant City as part of the 2008 Weekends with the Experts.

    A graphic representation of the process to obtain and produce braille textbooks. The current production process takes from 3 months to 2 years depending on the tactile graphics and technical aspects of the book. Page two shows the effect that the legislation of the National Instructional Materials Accessibility Standard (NIMAS) will have on the process.

  • 07-08 WWE -Camp Rose (Hillsborough County Summer Program) PowerPoint
    This joint venture between the Dvision of Blind Services, Hillsborough County Public Schools, and Tampa Lighthouse for the Blind provides an educational summer camp for children ages 6-13. The "camp" is designed to address all the areas of the Expanded Core Curriculum - Assistive Technology, Career Education, Compensatory Skills, Recreation and Leisure, O&M, Social Skill, Self-Determination, Visual Efficiency Skills and Independent Living. Included in the PowerPoint is the timeline of development and planning, examples of activities, and who to contact for more information. Presented January 2008.

For the January Weekends with the Experts the follow-up project is to complete an Assistive Technology Assessment with a student and write the report. Points will be awarded depending upon the scope and depth of the assessment report submitted. This scoring rubric details the scoring break down.
